Jesse

She slid from her chair and crumpled to the floor. She's been drinking that much is obvious, but there's something wrong. I can't get her to look at me. It's as if she can't even hear me.

“Emilee!” I yell her name as I crouch down in front of her. She looks up at me slowly. She's confused. “What happened, sweetheart?”

She shakes her head.

“She was fine until you walked in,” Callie says. “I don't mean in a bad way. Maybe you should get her husband”

Husband. I still can't believe she told these people Chase was her husband. Not that he minds, he already believes she told them that because she wants it to be true. I know he wants it to be true.

“Emilee,” Her friend crouches down and grabs her face between her hands. “Snap out of it!”

Emilee's eyes darken, her nostrils flaring. “Don't speak to me like that!”

“Then snap out of it. You don't want to do this here, sweetheart”

“What's going on in here? Emilee?” Chase asks the second his eyes land on Emilee.

“Nothing. Get off me, Callie!” This isn't Emilee. She's never been like this. She pushes her friend away from her, dragging herself to her feet. She stumbles a little into me. “Get off me, Jesse. Where's my son?”

“Are you drunk?”

“None of your business!” She spits at Chase.

“Last night you were telling me you don't drink. I bring Aidan home and your drunk out of your mind!”

“I only had a couple. Where's my baby?” She asks more frantically.

“You really think I'm gonna let you near Aidan when you're like this?”

“You can't stop me seeing my son!” She pushes past him, he follows, yelling at her, just like I figured he would.

My son is now crying. He's not used to this kind of thing. Of course, he's heard me yell, he's heard his mother yell, but not the way Chase and Emilee are yelling.

I lift my son into my arms. “Girls, I'm sorry about this”

“That's okay, Jesse. We'll go now. It can't be easy for them” I watch Callie rounding up the girls. They each kiss my Mia's cheek before leaving.

“What the hell is going on?” I pull Mia against me. She wraps one arm around my back and the other around Caleb. “She was fine one minute, the next she just... I don't know what happened, Jess”

“I don't know, baby, but I will find out”

“What's going to happen when we leave, Jesse? She's going to be here alone with whatever demons she's hiding from us”

“Daddy?” My son sobs into my shoulder. “I want my mommy”

“It's okay, sweetheart. Don't cry, Caleb, everything is okay”

Tomorrow is my last day here with Caleb. My last day with him for three weeks. His mother is taking him to Paris for a vacation. Of course, I said he could go, why wouldn't I? But I didn't want his memory of this trip being Chase screaming his head off at Emilee.

“I'm taking you home to mommy tomorrow”

“I'm frightened, daddy”

“Don't be frightened”

“I want to sleep with mommy Mia.
